Mother Cabrini Statue Installation

DBC was selected as the General Contractor by Battery Park City Authority to install a memorial to Mother Francis Xavier Cabrini (“Mother Cabrini”). DBC and BPCA worked in cooperation with the Office of New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, to recognize the Italian American saint. Elements of the Memorial project included demolition and site removals in the existing plaza, installation of concrete footings and curbs, new landscaping, the installation of a twelve- foot-high bronze sculpture of Mother Cabrini and interpretive panels, installation of a custom granite base for the statue, granite clad bench seating, stone pavers, accent lighting, site lighting and all electrical connections.

Intricate details included a stone mosaic plaza using stones imported from Italy and hand-placed individually by DBC’s highly skilled craftsmen. The project also required tight coordination with the artist, Giancarlo Biagi, for exact placement of anchor bolts and pins required to install and connect the statue in its precise location facing the Statue of Liberty across the Hudson river, a nod to our country’s immigrant story.

The tight project deadline required coordination with all the stakeholders, including the Construction Manager, BPCA, the artist and the Governor’s Office, in order to complete the project for the scheduled unveiling of the monument by Governor Cuomo on Columbus Day.
