Client: NYC School Construction Authority
Location: Queens, NY

Project Description: The NYC School Construction Authority’s Mentor Program was specifically designed to help minority and women-owned small businesses gain experience in successfully performing construction projects in New York City schools. Projects in the program range in complexity from minor interior and playground renovations to building modernizations and building services upgrades valued at more than $850,000.00 The program was designed to educate and grow the construction capacity of these firms to enable them to qualify and compete for projects in the capital improvement program working directly for the SCA.

The SCA’s innovative mentor program is one of the most highly-regarded and successful mentoring programs in NYC that support our MWBE construction community.

DBC was initially accepted into the SCA’s mentor program back in 1999, and graduated from the Mentor program and subsequently the next tier Graduate Mentor Program and went on to receive the SCA’s Woman Business Enterprise of the Year Award in 2008. DBC continues to successfully perform many projects for the SCA in the Capital Improvement Program.

As a testament to the transformational nature of this program DBC is now working with TDX Construction as part of the Mentor CM team helping other new Mentor Program contractors successfully navigate the program. DBC is providing documentation control specialists and construction superintendents as a sub consultant to TDX for the program.
